You may not know this about me (or, honestly, care), but I only wash my hair once a week.

There are a lot of reasons why I limit my hair-washing, but the biggest one is time. I have a lot of hair, and washing, air drying, and blow drying it takes up quite a bit of that.

For awhile, I was using dry shampoo to freshen up in between washes. But the store-bought stuff was actually making my hair greasier, and the homemade stuff was too messy to use in reality.

After some searching and experimenting, I’ve found a DIY hair spray recipe that works for me.

I use it to freshen my hair, prevent greasiness, and add volume and texture. It’s not a hair spray that will help “hold” your hairstyle, but its ingredients do strengthen hair and promote growth.

What’s In It

Witch hazel is the juggernaut of the natural beauty world. It has so many different uses for skin and wounds, but today I’m going to focus on its benefits for your hair and scalp. Witch hazel reduces itchiness and inflammation, and it can be used to address dandruff and an oily scalp. It may also prevent hair loss.

Rosemary oil has been known to increase both hair growth and thickness.

Lavender oil promotes hair growth, and its antimicrobial properties also make it useful for dandruff and an itchy scalp.

Cedarwood oil can be used to balance the oil-producing glands in your scalp. This can improve hair growth and prevent hair loss. And, like lavender oil, cedarwood oil has antibacterial properties, making it perfect to treat dandruff and itchiness.

This recipe takes about 2 minutes to make and smells so good you’ll want to use it right away. I liked the products I use, in case you need them.

Fill the rest of the bottle with water and shake.

This spray can be used on damp or dry hair. Spritz throughout and comb through for shiny, healthy hair.
